Vasily Grigoryevich Perov (1834–1882), painter, genre-painter, portraitist, author of pictures on historical subjects and teacher. He studied at Alexander Stupin’s Arzamas School of Painting and Sculpture (1846–1849), and under E. Vasilyev, Mikhail Scotti, Apollon Mokritsky and Sergei Zaryanko at the Moscow Institute of Art and Sculpture (1853–1861). He was a scholar of the Imperial Academy of Arts in France (1862–1864) and was an Academic (1866), a Professor (1870), and a founding member of the Society of Travelling Art Exhibitions. He taught at the Moscow Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1871–1882).
