The Russian Museum will open its virtual branch in Portugal

The University of  Coimbra is a leading educational institution of the country listed in the top three universities of portuguese speaking countries. Its faculties and colleges are located in different parts of Coimbra and house the historical buildings that are cultural and architectural monuments of world significance. The University was founded in the Middle Ages at the end of the 13th century and has the status of an ancient university along with the Bologna and Paris Universities.

 The College of Arts is one of the research departments of the University of Coimbra where students can get a science degree in the field of contemporary art and curatorial studies. Possessing exellent exhibition rooms, the College organises exhibitions of contemporary art presenting both work of students and professional artists.

 Students from Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Great Britain, China and other countries are taught in the College.  The Faculty of Arts and Humanitites of the University of Coimbra the Centre of Russian Researches has been open since 2012. Here the students can get to know Russian language and Culture. The opening of the virtual branch of the Russian Museum in the College of Arts of the Unversity of Coimbra will be a new stage in strengthening friendly relations between Russia and Portugal in the field of art.

 The Russian Museum is the first state museum of national art in Russia and one of the largest museums of Russian fine art in the world located in St.Petersburg, Russia. The collection of the museum numbers more than 410,000 exhibits and covers the history of Russian art from the 10th up to the 21st centuries. Since 2003 the Russian Museum has been implemented a unique international cultural and educational project “The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch” in the framework of which information and educational centres, the virtual branches of the Russian Museum, are being created in Russia and abroad.

 At present the project has grown into a network of more than 200 institutions of culture and education in more than 40 countries. The content of the information and educational centre “The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch” is the Mediateka, which is available in any one of the virtual branches of the Russian Museum. It includes multimedia films, interactive programs, games and publications created by experts of the Russian Museum on the basis of its art collections devoted to the history of Russian fine art, history and culture of Russia.

 The opening of the information and educational centre “The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch” in the college of Arts of the University of Coimbra will open up wide possibilities for students to get to know a rich collection of painting, graphic art and applied art from the collection of the Russian Museum and art museums of Russia and explore the history of Russian Fine art, history of St. Petersburg and Russia on the whole.

The chief of the Russian Centre at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the College of Arts of the Univerisity of Coimbra Vladimir Plyasov, prorectors and faculty deans, teachers, postgraduates and students of the College of Arts and citizens of Coimra   are invited to the ceremony of grand opening of the information and educational centre “The Russian Museum: the Virtual branch”.

 In the framework of the grand opening the official signing will take place of the Agreement on the collaboration on the project “The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch” between the rector of the University of Coimbra, Professor João Gabriel Silva and the Director of the Russian Museum , Professor Vladimir Gusev. Vladimir Gusev has kindly agreed to give a lecture “The rooms of the museum, the pages of the history” devoted to the establishment of the Russian Museum and its collection. It will be a first lecture in the framework of the activities of the virtual branch of the Russian Museum in Coimbra.

 The Grand opening of the centre “The Russian Museum: the Virtual Branch” in the College of Arts of the University of Coimbra will take place on the 24th of April 2017 at 11:00
