Sculptor, painter, draughtsman. Studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1824–1837). Designed statues of "Law" and "Justice" for the Senate and Holy Synod in St Petersburg (1833). Awarded major gold medal for his statue "Boy Playing at Knuckle-Bones" (1836). Fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts in Italy (1837–1844). Academician (1844). Professor of sculpture (1854). Taught at the Imperial Academy of Arts (from 1855).
