This painting by Alexander Vishnyakov is one of the very earliest depictions of a peasant carousal. The grotesque, which permeates the whole scene, represents a manifestation of raw nature, characteristic of the paintings by the Dutch and Flemish Old Masters of the 17th century, which were then imitated by Russian artists of the 18th century
