Little is known about the life of the first Christians in Kiev. Chronicles mention that the warriors Dir and Askold accepted Orthodox Christianity in 866. This suggests that such events are not isolated. Thanks to the Rus-Byzantin Treaty (945), it is known that there were many Christians among the Varangians. There was also a Church of St. Ilya in Kiev. In 957, Princess Olga was baptized. However, at that time, there was also the sacrifice to the pagan gods of two Christians Varagian, John and his father Fyodor, in 983 by Prince Vladimir, who later baptized the Kievan Rus.
