Sculptor. Studied under Nicolas-Francois Gillet at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1764-73). Awarded a major gold medal (1773). Fellow of the Imperial Academy of Arts in Italy and France (1773-78). Sculpted marble statues of Venus (1792) and Diana (1798), such bronze statues for the Grand Cascade at Peterhof as Perseus (1800), Neva (1804) and Sirens (1805), the Bearing the Cross to Golgotha low relief for the Kazan Cathedral (1807) Sea Nymphs Revolving the Celestial Sphere and other figures for the attic and colonnade of the Admiralty (1812). Academician and professor (1794). Taught sculpture at the Imperial Academy of Arts (from 1803). Rector of sculpture (1818).
