Collections

The basis of the collection of the first state museum of Russia consists of works of art that were previously kept in the Academy of Arts, the Hermitage as well as in the Winter Palace, Gatchina Palace and Alexander Palace at Tsarskoe Selo and in addition whole collections handed to the museum by individuals.

In this section you can explore the masterpieces of the collection, works of painting, graphic art, sculpture, numismatics, decorative and applied art and folk art.

Virtual Tours

Section "Virtual tours" introduces the museum complex and past temporary exhibitions of the Russian Museum. 

Tours allow you to take a virtual walk through the halls, to consider in detail the individual works and get additional information about each exhibit.

Art Gallery

The aim of the long-term project "Art Gallery" is to introduce visitors of the Portal and participants of the project with the artistic heritage of Russia through a number of virtual exhibitions and electronic publications devoted to the work of individual artists and various current topics.

We invite all who wish to participate in this project: museums, universities, institutions of culture and education, collectors and lovers of art.

Vernissages

Annually the Russian Museum organises dozens of exhibitions, which exhibit about 5,000 works from their own collection, as well as from collections of other museums and private collections. The exhibitions generate a great deal of interest. The exhibitions are accompanied by publications and multimedia programs. However access to these materials is limited.

The section “Vernissages in the Russian Museum” enables users to explore virtually the exhibition’s rooms, and get acquainted with the large exhibitions of the Russian Museum.

Online lectures

The Online Lectures in the Multimedia Centre of the Russian Museum is a long-term project of the Russian Museum which includes holding and online webcast of lectures on the theory and history of fine art, thematic online meetings and consultations with the staff of the Russian Museum as well as conducting of specialised seminars and conferences within the framework of the project.

E-course

The electronic series of educational and methodical materials “History of National Visual Art at the Exposition of the Russian Museum” for individual visitors of the virtual branches allows  tracing the main stages of the development of Russian art on the basis of the collection of the Russian Museum. Each of the programs of the series presents some of the sections of the museum’s collection, created in a unified  system, supplied with  convenient navigation for users, a dictionary of terms, articles on artists and events of art life.
