Vase with porcelain medallions

1860

The history of monumental vase` creation is connected with a long-standing tradition of giving presents to members of the Imperial family on holidays such as name days, Christmas and Easter.

The vase was executed after architect I. Galberg's design from 1827. The porcelain medallions on the theme of the Patriotic War of 1812 repeat the 1814 compositions created by the sculptor Fyodor Tolstoy.

Eclectic in its essence, the vase impresses with its dimensions, the high mastery of execution and the quality of the materials used.

This vase was first exhibited at the 1861 Industrial Exhibition dedicated to the fifth anniversary of Alexander II's reign.
