BACH Roman Ivanovich (Robert Heinrich) Ivanovich

1819, Riga — 1903, St Petersburg

Sculptor. Moved to St Petersburg (in 1830s). Studied at the School of Drawing for occasional students of Pavel Utkin, professor at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1840–1844); Higher School of Art, Imperial Academy of Arts (1844–1850, occasional student), pupil of Ivan Vitali (from 1847). Non-class artist (1850) for a bust of A. Markov (the Museum of the Academy of Arts). Taught at the School of Drawing, Society for the Encouragement of Artists (1852–1855), “modeling” in the “wax modeling courses additional to basic modeling course”. Director of the Nickols and Plenke’s Bronze and Silver Casting Plant in St Petersburg (from 1859). Honourary associate member of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1882).
