Sculptor, portraitist, master of decorative sculpture. Studied at classes of fine art headed by Anatoly Gunst and Sergei Volnukhin in Moscow (1889–1890). Occasional student at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under Sergei Ivanov (1891–1894). Studied sculpture under Vladimir Beklemishev at the Higher School of Art, Imperial Academy of Arts (1894), at the Filippo Colarossi’s studio in Paris (1895–1896), took lessons from François-Auguste-René Rodin (1897– 1898, 1900), studied the technique of working with marble. Visited London (1904). Headed the sculptural department at the Prechistenskiye courses (1913–1916). Taught at the Second State Free Art Studios/Higher Art and Technical Studios (1918–1922). Author of the “Some Words on a Sculptor’s Handicraft” book (1923).
