Painter, draughtsman, lithographer, etcher, genre painter, caricaturist, history painter. Studied history painting at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1841–1861), occasional student (till 1855). Second-class artist. Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1852–1864, with intervals). Published caricatures in Acquaintances (from 1858). Collaborated with the satirical journal Spark (1859–1869). Published and edited Painter (from 1871). Member of the Society for the Encouragement of Artists and the St Petersburg Club of Artists (from 1863). Taught at the School of Drawing, Society for the Encouragement of Artists (from 1866).
