Armchair

  • Wood, carving, gilding. 167 x 100 x 86
  • Меб.-593

The armchair was created according to drawings by Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine, famous architects for Napoleon I, for the chambers of Dowager Empress Marie Feodorovna in the Winter Palace, decorated by Auguste Montferrand. The interiors were destroyed in a palace fire in 1837. The surviving armchair, subsequently restored by the famous master Peter Gambs, gives us an impression of the richness and grandeur of the palace interiors of the Empire era.
