The lampshade "Parachutes"

Vologda. 1940

In the 1930s, the main task of lace makers in Vologda was the creation of new ornaments and forms of lace items that corresponded to the spirit of the times. Graduates of the Vologda lace school in the late 1930s for the first time in the art of lacework created images of a tractor, plane and parachute, which appeared on small napkins, lampshades, narrow lacy bands with waves. They have a peculiar way of conveying the theme by the miniature patterns, the conventionality and generality of the drawing, the subtlety of weaving.
