This portrait is an excellent example of the Impressionist sculptures of Paolo Troubetzkoy. The sculptor’s works were admired and reproduced in the magazine World of Art. An independent, vivacious and extremely European artist, Troubetzkoy’s oeuvre was very close to Sergei Diaghilev’s own heart. In one of his articles, Diaghilev announced: “Our generation hankers, above all, for beauty.”
