There is always something in the life of a child that happens for the first time, and often the first steps of a small human being are accompanied by uncertainty and fear. The mother, who is always there when it counts, helps to overcome these feelings. This learning usually takes place in the process of playing. The canvas was repeated by the artist; different versions of it are in the Tretyakov Gallery and in a private collection. Play and Passion in Russian Fine Art. St-Petersburg. 1999. P. 30.
