Witold Byalynitsky-Birulia developed the traditions of the Russian lyrical landscape. Depicting the world of the Russian countryside, the artist was inspired by direct interaction with nature. Emerald of Spring is an excellent example of a mood landscape, conveying the light and joyous state of nature in one of its transitional periods – spring, a village fence, road, shining puddles and succulent grass. Byalynitsky-Birulia often employed greeny-blue, greyish and lilac semi-tones in his paintings.
