The energy of the tones and the sharp and risqué colour combinations evoke sensations of the incredible emotional tension filling all of Olga Rozanova’s non-objective compositions. The artist herself defined their main quality as «colour-painting». Rozanova’s manifesto proclaimed the aesthetic value of abstract painting, based above all on the perfection of the colour scheme: «Non-objective art is born of love of colour. This is primarily painting.» The artist’s non-objective compositions are centred around contrasts of white and yellow (as is the case here) or the background and the diverse geometric details of the painterly «construction».
