On Friday, June 10th Director of the Collection of the Russian Museum (Malaga) José Mª Luna Aguilar gave a lecture "Management of Art Museums. New Models" The lecture takes place in the Multimedia Centre of the Western Guardhouse of St. Michael’s (Engineers) Castle (8 Inzhenernaya street, St. Petersburg) Museums of today are not only containers of artworks focusing their activity in the conservation and care of works. Some time ago that Museums and Art Centres care about the relationship between works and public in general. Certainly, they do not leave behind the conservation and the study of their rich heritage, controlling the parameters of conservation, but it is a must to find formulas in order to the public can interact with works and collections. In a society like this, where information and distribution channels tend almost to the infinity, it is not important to give information about exhibited works but to build stories from them to help us for a better understanding of their context. Public ask for training and information, but also desire to have experiences, especially in art museums, and be carried along by their emotions. This new situation imposes a new paradigm in management models. Those traditional attitudes where the object prevailed are not useful anymore. There is to look for models that are able to reconcile the relationship between works and the interests of different types of audiences because there is one kind of audience anymore. Each audience has different expectations, so modern museums must work to satisfy them. New models of transversal management that integrated disciplines such as art history, of course, but also marketing, communication, economy and public relations are being imposed. So, this requires new structures and more versatile and flexible professionals, able to adapt to new situations and changes that happen every day.
