The temporal pendants discovered in silver caches played the same role and utilitarian purpose as gold works with cloisonné enamel. The tradition of decorating earrings with hollow circle settings dates back to early ancient times. Similar works of jewellery have been found in a cache in Akhalgoria in Georgia dating from the fourth or third century BC. Russian Museum: From Icons to the Modern Times.
