Round-table session "Digital Tools for Museum Accessibility: How to Improve Visitor Experience"
Round table on the digital accessibility of museums, the requirements and regulations in this area, the tools by which the digital products of museums can become more accessible to people with disabilities. The participants are museum specialists, experts with disabilities, IT specialists and ITMO students. Round table organized by the State Russian Museum and ITMO University.
One of the goals of the round table is to identify and formulate museums' needs in the area of digital accessibility, and to find ways to solve existing problems. In the future, based on the identified requests, the Russian Museum, together with ITMO University, plans to formulate methodological recommendations for museum employees on creating digital accessibility, which will take into account the specifics of these cultural institutions. These recommendations may be in demand among museums in Russia and will help create a more accessible digital environment. This is an important step towards making cultural heritage accessible to all.
The event will take place on May 22 at 16:00 in the Multimedia Center of Russian Museum.

Organizers:
The Department of Inclusive Programs at the Russian Museum is a team of psychologists, art therapists, museum educators, artists, and art historians who are engaged in creating an accessible environment at the Russian Museum. Specialists of the department have 30 years of experience in developing and conducting programs for visitors with special needs.
The Virtual Russian Museum service oversees the museum's activities related to the research, creation and presentation of museum multimedia based on the collection, history and traditions of the Russian Museum. The main objective is to translate knowledge about Russian fine art through digital technologies, to develop museum multimedia culture accessible to users and visitors from different age and social categories. It is especially important that the round table discussion will take place in the Multimedia Center of the Russian Museum which will provide broadcasting of the event.
ITMO University
The Center for Usability and Mixed Reality at ITMO University, the direction of digital accessibility, has been conducting research and training graduate students on the topics of digital accessibility, apps, texts in the interface since 2019. We focus on accessible indoor and outdoor navigation, vibro-tactile interfaces, accessible psychological assistance, and improving accessibility standards. Our goal is to produce new knowledge, based on scientific evidence, to improve the quality of life of people with perceptual, cognitive, and mobility disabilities.
