The University of  Coimbra is a leading educational institution of the country listed in the top three universities of portuguese speaking countries. Its faculties and colleges are located in different parts of Coimbra and house the historical buildings that are cultural and architectural monuments of world significance. The University was founded in the Middle Ages at the end of the 13th century and has the status of an ancient university along with the Bologna and Paris Universities.

The College of Arts is one of the research departments of the University of Coimbra where students can get a science degree in the field of contemporary art and curatorial studies. Possessing exellent exhibition rooms, the College organises exhibitions of contemporary art presenting both work of students and professional artists.

Students from Portugal, Brazil, Spain, Great Britain, China and other countries are taught in the College.  The Faculty of Arts and Humanitites of the University of Coimbra the Centre of Russian Researches has been open since 2012. Here the students can get to know Russian language and Culture. The opening of the virtual branch of the Russian Museum in the College of Arts of the Unversity of Coimbra is a new stage in strengthening friendly relations between Russia and Portugal in the field of art.
