Vernissages

Annually the Russian Museum organises dozens of exhibitions, which exhibit about 5,000 works from their own collection, as well as from collections of other museums and private collections. The exhibitions generate a great deal of interest. The exhibitions are accompanied by publications and multimedia programs. However access to these materials is limited.

The section “Vernissages in the Russian Museum” enables users to explore virtually the exhibition’s rooms, and get acquainted with the large exhibitions of the Russian Museum.


The exhibition includes about 200 pieces and a special part of it will present memorial materials, as well as photographic ones, which could show the iconography of Aivazovsky. The core part of the exposition includes world-renown masterpieces as well as less known works of Aivazovsky from the private collections.
The third exhibition from the «Saga of the Dynasty» series dedicated to the reign of Elizabeth (Elizaveta Petrovna) was open in St.Michael’s Castle. The basis of the exhibition consists of works by Georg Christoph Grooth (1716-1749) - one of the most prominent representatives of «Rossica» whose 300th Anniversary is celebrated in 2016.
The exhibition includes 37 sculptures and 8 drawings from the collection of the State Russian Museum, State Hermitage Museum, State Tretyakov Gallery, St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music and private collection from Moscow.
The oeuvre of Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944), world-renown Russian artist is for the first time presented with special emphasis made on the national origins of his early figurative works and abstract paintings of 1910-s.
The exhibition familiarizes the public with a significant episode in the history of the Russian avant-garde and artistic life of Petrograd during World War I and first post-revolutionary years.

August 25 in the St. Michael's Castle opens the exhibition of Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva, whose artworks reflects the revival and flourishing of etching in the early 20th century Russian art.

The exhibition comprises around 100 pieces of art by Schedrin and painters of Posillipo School from the Russian Museum and other museum collections.

The exhibition comprises over 200 pieces of art from the Russian museum collection among which are the best examples of the genre performed by the leading masters of Russian art. 

The Russian Museum possesses the largest and fullest collection of Erzia's works, donated by the author to the state. The exhibition in St Michael's Castle comprises 31 works from the Russian Museum and 6 sculptures from Mordovian Republican Fine Arts Museum in Saransk.

The exhibition presents the oeuvre of Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and works by his contemporaries, pupils and associates.

The bright and vivid world of the circus found its reflection in the works of many artists. The major exhibition of the Russian Museum presents the works of art of the 19th - 20th centuries dedicated to the circus for the first time.

From 24th February through May 2016 one can see the most large-scale exhibition of Léon Bakst in four rooms of the Benois wing.
