Painter, graphic artist, book artist. Studied at a studio of art in Atkarsk (early 1920s) and VKhUTEIN in Moscow (1926–1930). Contributed to exhibitions (from 1928). Honoured Artist of the RSFSR (1955), corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1954). Winner of the Stalin Prize (1947, 1948).
