The Konstantin Service was designed in honour of the marriage of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich to Princess Alexandra of Sachsen-Altenburg in 1848. The service was kept in the Marble Palace, which had been specially replanned for the occasion by architect Alexander Brullov. Russian Museum: From Icons to the Modern Times.
