The stormy sea, the moon reflected in its waters and the calm «unceremonial» view selected by the artist are typical features of Romantic works of art. This small watercolour fully expresses the same emotions that a painting does. The Romantic artists often used such a technique in order to demonstrate how a drawing can include just as many possibilities as a painting. Russian Museum: From Icons to the Modern Times.
