Żukowski is one of the most lyrical landscapists from the turn of the 20th century. He always found something surprising for himself in the most ordinary of motifs. In the canvas Weir, the artist turned to the motif of early spring with its melting snow, glades, and thin, still naked, branches on trees. The entire work is done in a silvery colour palette, without sharp shadows. Żukowski aimed to show the awakening of nature, when everything is changing, everything is melting, flowing, and merging into one, creating an impression of vibrating air.
