Nikolai Milioti, who was fascinated by the paintings of Victor Boris-Musatov and the poetry of the symbolists, always tended towards the theme of the ancient mythology. In the painting «Birth of Venus», he is strongly appealed by this old legend. The young goddess is depicted among the wild nature in a swirl of water and air and in a blaze of light. All the living things praise her birth: birds, fishes, and people. This vibrant nacre and rose colour expresses the idea of «everlasting spring». This painting reflects neoclassical trends, the dreams of a «Golden Age» of humanity, the sorrow of beauty and miracle, which disappeared forever from people’s real life.
