Still-Life with Crystal

1919

Pavel Kuznetsov only began painting still-lifes when he was a mature master. This particular work is one of the finest examples in his oeuvre. Altering the real world in line with his own personal concept of beauty and harmony, Kuznetsov creates a generalised poetic world of objects. Majestic, calm and full of hidden meaning, the still-life exudes a wonderful atmosphere of spirituality. Russian Museum: From Icons to the Modern Times. Palace Editions, St Petersburg, 2015. P. 278.
