“Victor MikhailovichVasnetsov, the Hero of Russian painting”

Students of Ishim schools are invited to a new program at the Museum of the Ishim Teacher Training Institute.

“Victor MikhailovichVasnetsov, the Hero of Russian painting”.

“I have always been convinced that fairy tales, songs, Russian heroic epic and drama reflect both inner and outer character of the nation, with the past and the present, and perhaps with the future”, said Victor Vasnetsov.

The creative heritage of this great Russian artist takes a weighty place in the history of national art.

The artist is a historian, chronicler, inspirer of his nation. This issue will be discussed at the meeting with schoolchildren at the Teacher Training Institute.

Children will be told how V. Vasnetsov gained creative strength of mind for the folklore theme. It was the time of increased attention to national olden times and history, which began in 1850 and manifested itself in the growth of collecting, studying and publishing of the monuments of written language and folklore. In the middle of the 19th century several fundamental collections of folklore were published, such as “Russian national proverbs” by V.Dal (1861-1862), “Russian folk tales” by A. Afanasev (1855-1864), “Songs” collected by P.Rybnikov (1861-1867), “The Onega epics”  by A. Gilferding (1873) and others. Moscow Archaeological Society was organized in 1864, and since the middle of 1860 scientists concentrated on the study of “antiquity of the Russian state”, including the oral folk arts.

The historic research on the Russian way of life in the 16-17 centuries by Ivan Zabelin was especially significant for the artist. The scientist, whom Vasnetsov was personally acquainted with, had a similar vision of national art as the demonstration of “the live soul of its creators”.

The children will be reminded of the unique world of the Russian fairy tale while watching the fragment from the film “Morozko” by the outstanding soviet director A.Rou, and listening to the music from the opera “The Snow Maiden” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov. The students will be offered to think about the message of the canvases by V.Vasnetsov, to examine the details in such pictures as “Three Knights”, “The Knight at the Crossroads”, “The Flying Carpet”, “The Sleeping Princess”, “Prince Igor’s Battlefield”, “The Battle between Scythians and Slavonians”, “Three Princesses of the Underground Kingdom”, “Alionushka”, “The Snow Maiden”. The serious talk about the artist’s creative works will be accompanied with games and quizzes. We hope the children will discover the astonishing world of the great artist in a new way.
