Information Center "Russian Museum: Virtual Branch" in Pavlovsk presents:
"The Art of Veliky Novgorod of the Era of St. Macarius." Online lecture from the series of lectures on the theory and history of fine art "Conversations on art with the Russian Museum," held at the Multimedia Center of the Russian Museum. Lectures are given by researchers of the Russian Museum.
The lecture on the exhibition of the same name of the Russian Museum (27.04.-14.08.17) is dedicated to unique exhibits of ancient Russian art from the collection of the Russian Museum and other collections.
The era of art of Veliky Novgorod in the first half - mid-16th century has never been the subject of a special exhibition project and has not been shown as a whole artistic phenomenon. The key personality of Russian history and culture of this time was Vladyka Makariy (1482-1563), over the years of the archbishopric and whose multifaceted activity in Novgorod (1526-1542) is the brilliant heyday of all types of art.
Novgorod art of the 16th century is first demonstrated as a whole artistic phenomenon. Icons, sewing, woodcarving, utensils, books and casting - the heyday of all visual means of that time is associated with the key personality of the era - Lord Makariy. His activities unfolded in the years that followed immediately after the accession of Novgorod to the Moscow state.
The original Novgorod style with its expressive interpretation of images gains ease and dynamism in the 16th century. In strong-willed, serious persons with large features, a national warehouse of character is read. And the very wide and bold manner that Novgorodians loved so much becomes part of the eternal national plot.
Lecturer: Irina Alexandrovna Shalina - candidate of art history, leading researcher at the State Russian Museum, author of numerous studies and publications, expert at Rosokhrankultura. The lecture was held on June 13, 2017.
