Exhibition «Nikolai Suetin. Ilya Chashnik»
The legendary archive of Anna Leporskaya, Kazimir Malevich’s pupil and secretary, was donated to the Russian Museum in 2017 by Raisa Strimaitis, heir to Nina Suetina, who had bequeathed the works to the museum in her will. The unique archive consisted of numerous drawings by many different artists, including studies and sketches by Kazimir Malevich and other preeminent masters of the Russian avant-garde movement. This exhibition spotlights the work of Malevich’s closest pupils and associates Ilya Chashnik (1902–1929) and Nikolai Suetin (1897–1954), and follows on the heels of the first two exhibitions of works from the Leporskaya archive, which featured previously unknown drawings by Kazimir Malevich and works by Leporskaya herself. It represents the final stage in the processing and study of the Russian Museum’s Leporskaya Archive. The exhibition will showcase many previously unknown drawings associated with Chashnik’s and Suetin’s research at GINKhUK (State Institute of Artistic Culture) and their later experiments with industrial design. The works of Leningrad Porcelain Factory’s head artist Nikolai Suetin, making up their own section of the exhibition, illuminate an interesting and significant chapter of post-revolution Russian avant-garde art that has yet to be fully explored by museum audiences.
