As a result of scientific expeditions to the Arkhangelsk and Vologda regions, the Russian Museum has formed a large collection of northern sarafans made from printed cloth.

The printed cloth  which was made by a master from the Pinega village, can be distinguished by the strictness of the rhythmic composition. Rosettes with pointed leaves, bright polka-dots and white circles make up its modest, but still elegant and expressive ornament.
