Gingerbread Board

19th century

Gingerbreads with an embossed ornament were often cut into slices. Some of them decorated the festive table, but by the end of the celebration they were cut into slices and handed out to the guests, as a polite reminder that it was time to go home. Therefore, gingerbread boards were called “razgonnye” (served as a sign that a quest should leave the place).

The boards were divided into sections, where in the technique of small-pointed notched carving birds, fish and flowers were depicted.
