Podstolie is a part of a table including legs and the frame supporting the table top.
A unique carved piece of the 17th century, wooden podstolie is the lower part of the table, where the dishes were kept. Its squat proportions are dictated by the character of the interior of that time with low vaulted ceilings. Monumental balls (resembling turnips) at the base of the legs create a sense of stability and power. The box is decorated with a relief ornament, combining the classic motifs of acanthus leaves with real berries.
