The tradition of the Russian lyrical landscape evolved in Białynicki-Birula’s work. In terms of the importance of his artistic ideas, he was inferior to some of his peers, but he achieved great things in his small range of favourite subjects. The painter was most interested in depicting the nature of the Russian village, and the main source of his poetic drama is his direct impressions from communing with nature.
