Sea. Crimea
1898
Arkhip Kuindzhi painted more than five-hundred works, mostly small studies and sketches. This particular example was painted on the edge of the Black Sea, near the small town of Kikeneiz. Kuindzhi bought a large plot of land there running down to the sea, where he planned to build a house, studio and library for his students. The artist loved working in the Crimea, painting the clouds, water and sandy shorelines in various weather conditions. Russian Museum: From Icons to the Modern Times.
