The composition "Whisper" is in the series of works performed by already accomplished , but still in constant search master. In 1922 Erzia lived and worked in Batumi, where he focused on wood as the material for his works. Interest in this material, based partly on the knowledge of the Mordovian folk artists work, partly on the acquaintance with the S. Konenkov ideas, next to whom, Erzya was renting a studio in 1905, was not accidental for the sculptor.
It was during his stay in the Caucasus, when he had an opportunity to work with the wood.
The work "Whisper" shows that the sculptor definitely understood the prospects that opened with the work with wood and the possibilities of compositional diversity based on the use of its natural structure. Erzia's love for smooth surfaces and combination of processed and untouched parts of this material when creating romanticized images also begins to appear in it.
