Watercolor

Watercolor (French aquarelle "watery", Italian acquarello) is a technique of image and a kind of fine art that occupies a transitional position between painting and graphics. Watercolor combines the features of painting (richness of tone, construction of form and space with color) and graphics (the active role of the white background of paper in the construction of the image, the absence of specific relief of the stroke, characteristic of painting with tempera, gouache or oil). When working with transparent watercolors, a watercolor artist takes into account the tone, usually white, actively reflecting light, and the texture of the base (paper, parchment, cardboard, silk, ivory) not only as a material, but also as one of the visual means. The value of a reflective surface is preserved in watercolor even with mixed media (watercolor with whitewash, gouache, sanguine painting, pastels). Therefore, at art exhibitions, classic watercolors are exhibited in the graphics section. In the virtual branch of the Russian Museum a lesson was held with watching the film "Watercolor", students of the Children's Art School No. 1 named after V.E. Tatlins were able to deepen their knowledge in this area of fine art by studying the works of recognized masters of the genre.
