Painter, draughtsman, portraitist. Son of Georg Dietrich Warnek, a mahogany furniture maker. Studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts (1795-1803). Fourteenth-class artist. Awarded a fellowship to Italy (1804-09). Academician of portraiture for Portrait of the Writer, Historian, Ethnographer, Geographer, Archaeologist and Honorary Member of the Imperial Academy of Arts Ivan Pototsky (1810). Painted icons for the iconostasis of the Kazan Cathedral (1810). Taught portraiture at the Imperial Academy of Arts (from 1810) and miniature painting (from 1815). Councillor (1814), second-class professor (1831), first-class professor (1832), professor emeritus (1834). Curator of drawings and prints at the Imperial Hermitage (from 1824). Contributed to the work of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts. Contributed to the exhibitions of the Imperial Academy of Arts (1814-24).
